Orchard ladder safety

Orchard ladder safety is critically important for anyone using ladders to pick fruit. Ladders used in orchards are often taller than standard ladders to reach the upper branches of fruit trees. This added height increases the risk of falls and injuries. When setting up the ladder, ensure it is on level, stable ground and avoid placing it on soft soil or muddy areas. The ladder should be angled properly, typically at a 75 degree angle, and be firmly set before climbing. While on the ladder, maintain 3 points of contact at all times, either two feet and one hand or two hands and one foot. Avoid overreaching or leaning too far to one side, as this can cause the ladder to tip. Be cautious of uneven ground, exposed roots, or other tripping hazards around the base of the ladder. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes with good traction to avoid slips.

Do not stand on top cap of ladder or the first step down.

Leaning the ladder against a branch increases therisk of falling.

Do not reach out too far.
